These frame style sterling silver initial brooches were the height of fashion during the Art Deco era and this one is a classic with its streamlined Greek key geometric design .
The brooch design was usually patented and they were specially personalized for the individual customer. She would choose her frame style and initials and the jeweller would assemble the brooch for her. In this case we have "LAB" and we can't help wonder who she might have been, fabulous piece and iconic of the high Deco era!
The brooch is 1-1/4" (3.2cm) square and weighs 10.1 grams. It has a pin back with a roll over safety clasp and is stamped on the back "Sterling", "Patented" and "This Side Up".
Condition is very, very good, the silver is rhodium plated to prevent it tarnishing and the pin back is in perfect working order. There are 1 or 2 marcasite stones missing but its not particularly noticeable to the eye, please see photos.
