DATE: Georgian, c.1820

Quite unusual, a Georgian period serpent charm holder dating from the early 19th century. The tail forms a bail at the top to hang from a chain, the rest of the body and head looping around underneath to form a hook to safely hang a collection of charms. It's beautifully detailed, with deeply chased scales and cartoonish face. Crafted in 15 karat gold, it was made in England circa 1820 - I've never seen another quite like it.
