DATE: Victorian, c.1870

Exquisite Mid Victorian oval locket with emerald and diamond set laurel garlands hanging from a pearl set chevron ribbon. Beautifully proportioned, it's crafted in 18 karat gold and a good big size at 4.8cm (not including bail). Dating from the 1870s, or thereabouts, it opens to reveal two oval locket compartments inside ideal for photographs or - as initially intended - locks of hair.
