Product Details

The use of cameos in necklaces, earrings, bracelets, brooches, and rings is one of the most prolific jewelry motifs used throughout the Victorian Era. Though they pre-date the Victorian era, for the travel-loving Victorians a cameo was a favorite, possibly representing a meaningful souvenir of a Grand European Tour. They were also equally worn between men and women.

Pate-de-Verre is a French term that literally means “glass paste."  Ground glass, which could be colored by pigments, was poured into a mold and fused into the desired shape. It was first applied by ancient Greeks and the art was revived in the 19th century. This technique is very closely related to enameling.

Circa 1840 this gorgeous enamel-framed cameo sees turquoise blue as a muse amidst mediums. The bright blue Pate-de-Verre cameo appears as though it may be carved turquoise among the four cabochons that grace her halo. Counter enameled, delicately edged, and beautifully finished she is a stunning find.
