DATE: Victorian, c.1880

A bizarre and quite remarkable antique pendant carved from a nut. It dates from the late 19th Century, expertly carved to form a grotesque face, with exaggerated features, orange glass bead eyes, and wearing some sort of hood or cap. It was made some time around the 1880s, and remains in great condition - presumably having been hardened with vinegar or similar.
